the bit nobody checks
Your scar deserved better than a glance at six weeks
A caesarean is major abdominal surgery — and yet for most mums, the last time anyone looked properly at the scar was the six-week check, if then. After that you are left alone with it: the numbness, the pulling, the overhang you have quietly decided to live with, the strange tightness when you reach for something on a high shelf.
You do not have to live with it. Scar tissue keeps responding to treatment for years. In our sessions I work with the scar and the layers beneath it — slowly, gently, always within what feels safe to you — so the tissue can glide the way it is meant to. Mums tell me their scar becomes softer and flatter, that the tugging eases, that feeling starts to come back. Some tell me something bigger: that they finally feel at peace with the way their baby arrived.
And because I am a midwife, not only a therapist, the conversation can hold all of it — the birth you planned, the birth you got, and everything your body has done since. That part matters more than people expect.
Sound familiar?
A shelf, overhang or dip that bothers you
Tightness or pulling when you stand tall or stretch
Numbness, tingling or odd sensations around the scar
A scar that feels stuck down rather than moving with you
Discomfort with waistbands or anything touching it
A scar you simply cannot bring yourself to look at or touch
If any of these ring true, an assessment will tell us exactly what your scar needs.

a mum who came first
Alicia's experience
“I had a wonderful experience with Lois when she came to my home to check and treat my c-section scar. She was extremely professional and warm. Having at-home care made such a huge difference during my recovery with a newborn. I couldn’t be happier with the treatment and highly recommend her services to any new mum.”

Your questions, answered honestly
What is c-section scar therapy?
C-section scar therapy is gentle, specialist hands-on treatment for caesarean scars. Using massage and mobilisation techniques, it works on the scar and the tissue beneath it to soften tightness, release adhesions where the layers have stuck together, improve movement, and reduce sensations like pulling, tingling or numbness. As a Restore-qualified therapist and a registered midwife, I assess your scar and your birth history first, then treat at a pace your body is comfortable with.
When can I start scar therapy after my caesarean?
Direct work on the scar itself usually begins from around six weeks, once the wound is fully healed and you have had your postnatal check. Before that, I can still help — with wound checks, gentle work around (not on) the area, and advice on caring for a new scar. And there is no upper limit: I treat scars that are months, years, even decades old, and they still respond.
Does c-section scar massage actually work?
Scar tissue responds to touch at any age. Massage and mobilisation encourage the layers of tissue to glide over each other as they should, which is why mums commonly notice their scar feels softer, flatter and less tethered, with less pulling on standing or stretching, and gradually more normal sensation in the numb area around it. Everybody and every scar is different, which is exactly why I begin with a proper assessment rather than promises.
What happens at the first appointment?
The initial appointment takes up to 90 minutes. We talk through your birth and your recovery, I assess how your scar looks, feels and moves, and we begin treatment the same day if your scar is ready. You are covered and comfortable throughout, and nothing happens without your say-so. You will also leave with simple techniques to use at home between sessions.
Do you do home visits for scar therapy, and which areas?
Yes. I treat at my clinic at Therapy & Fitness in West Malling on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and I offer home visits across Kent — including Maidstone, Medway, Dartford, Gravesend, Ashford, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and Kings Hill. Home appointments carry a £5 travel supplement.
How do I book, and how much does it cost?
The initial assessment and treatment (up to 90 minutes) is £75, and follow-up treatments (up to 60 minutes) are £60. You can book a clinic slot online below, or message me on WhatsApp and we will find a time together — including home visits. Payment plans are available on request.
Can I have scar therapy alongside NHS care?
Completely. Scar therapy is not something the NHS routinely offers, so it sits naturally alongside whatever NHS care you have had. As an NMC-registered midwife I will also tell you honestly if anything about your scar needs your GP’s attention first.
Your scar, looked after at last
Send me a photo-free message about your scar — how old it is, what bothers you — and I'll tell you honestly whether therapy can help, before you book anything.
